PROVERBS 20:1-9

1. Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise. 2. The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life. 3. Keeping away from strife is an honor for a man, But any fool will quarrel. 4. The sluggard does not plow after the autumn, So he begs during the harvest and has nothing. 5. A plan in the heart of a man is like deep water, But a man of understanding draws it out. 6. Many a man proclaims his own loyalty, But who can find a trustworthy man? 7. A righteous man who walks in his integrity-- How blessed are his sons after him. 8. A king who sits on the throne of justice Disperses all evil with his eyes. 9. Who can say, ``I have cleansed my heart, I am pure from my sin"?

PROVERBS 1:1-7

1. The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: 2. To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding, 3. To receive instruction in wise behavior, Righteousness, justice and equity; 4. To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion, 5. A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel, 6. To understand a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their riddles. 7. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

PROVERBS 3:13-27

13. How blessed is the man who finds wisdom And the man who gains understanding. 14. For her profit is better than the profit of silver And her gain better than fine gold. 15. She is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her. 16. Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. 17. Her ways are pleasant ways And all her paths are peace. 18. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who hold her fast. 19. The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, By understanding He established the heavens. 20. By His knowledge the deeps were broken up And the skies drip with dew. 21. My son, let them not vanish from your sight; Keep sound wisdom and discretion, 22. So they will be life to your soul And adornment to your neck. 23. Then you will walk in your way securely And your foot will not stumble. 24. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25. Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes; 26. For the LORD will be your confidence And will keep your foot from being caught. 27. Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in your power to do it.

EPHESIANS 2:11-22

11. Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called ``Uncircumcision" by the so-called ``Circumcision," which is performed in the flesh by human hands-- 12. remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15. by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, 16. and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. 17. AND HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR; 18. for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. 19. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, 20. having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21. in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22. in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

PROVERBS 3:1-35

1. My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; 2. For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you. 3. Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. 4. So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man. 5. Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. 7. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. 9. Honor the LORD from your wealth And from the first of all your produce; 10. So your barns will be filled with plenty And your vats will overflow with new wine. 11. My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD Or loathe His reproof, 12. For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights. 13. How blessed is the man who finds wisdom And the man who gains understanding. 14. For her profit is better than the profit of silver And her gain better than fine gold. 15. Do not say to your neighbor, ``Go, and come back, And tomorrow I will give it, " When you have it with you. 29. Do not devise harm against your neighbor, While he lives securely beside you. 30. Do not contend with a man without cause, If he has done you no harm. 31. Do not envy a man of violence And do not choose any of his ways. 32. For the devious are an abomination to the LORD; But He is intimate with the upright. 33. The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the dwelling of the righteous. 34. Though He scoffs at the scoffers, Yet He gives grace to the afflicted. 35. The wise will inherit honor, But fools display dishonor.

ISAIAH 26:1-6

1. In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: ``We have a strong city; He sets up walls and ramparts for security. 2. ``Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter, The one that remains faithful. 3. ``The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You. 4. ``Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock. 5. ``For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust. 6. ``The foot will trample it, The feet of the afflicted, the steps of the helpless." 7. The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level. 8. Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O LORD, We have waited for You eagerly; Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls. 9. At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. 10. Though the wicked is shown favor, He does not learn righteousness; He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness, And does not perceive the majesty of the LORD. 11. O LORD, Your hand is lifted up yet they do not see it. They see Your zeal for the people and are put to shame; Indeed, fire will devour Your enemies. 12. LORD, You will establish peace for us, Since You have also performed for us all our works. 13. O LORD our God, other masters besides You have ruled us; But through You alone we confess Your name. 14. The dead will not live, the departed spirits will not rise; Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And You have wiped out all remembrance of them. 15. You have increased the nation, O LORD, You have increased the nation, You are glorified; You have extended all the borders of the land. 16. O LORD, they sought You in distress; They could only whisper a prayer, Your chastening was upon them. 17. As the pregnant woman approaches the time to give birth, She writhes and cries out in her labor pains, Thus were we before You, O LORD. 18. We were pregnant, we writhed in labor, We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born. 19. Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits. 20. Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course. 21. For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; And the earth will reveal her bloodshed And will no longer cover her slain.
